June P. Parney

June Palmer Parney, born November 23rd, 1930, passed away Monday October 20th, 2025 just one month before her 95th Birthday. 

A native Floridian, June was born at Deland Memorial Hospital to Calvin Hamilton Palmer and Willa Mae Hyman. Her mother relocated to Fort Lauderdale to find work when she was five years old and she stayed in Lake Helen, Florida where she was raised by her grandparents Robert and Bertha Mary Hyman. She graduated from Deland High School in May of 1948 and moved to Fort Lauderdale shortly after to live with her mother, step-father Roy Ginder and step-sister Kathryn Joyce Ginder.

On August 7th, 1950, she began her career at Southern Bell as a Long Distance Switchboard Operator. At the time she did not have a car and chose the late night hours so she would be given a free taxi ride home after her shift. She saved up enough money from that job to buy her first car- a fire engine red ford convertible- and it only cost her $327! After many years of promotions and title changes, she went on to become the Chief Service Adviser for the Southeast Florida Area and remained in that position until she retired after 33 years of service on December 31st, 1983.

She met her husband, John Arthur Parney, on a blind date set up by his sister who was a coworker of hers at the Telephone Company. They dated for four years before marrying on September 2, 1954. Her step-father Roy hired her husband at his Masonry business he owned and they saved up all their money to build their first home in April 1956. On February 8th, 1960, June and husband John welcomed their daughter Jacqueline June.

After retiring from Southern Bell, June helped take care of her granddaughter Melissa. In 1987 June went back to work for Saint Mark's Episcopal School in Oakland Park Florida where she worked in the 3 Year Old Nursery class as an aide. She left Saint Mark's in 1995 and went to work for another private elementary school- Pride and Joy Academy in Oakland Park Florida- for five years. After leaving Pride and Joy, she was offered a position to return to Saint Mark's in the Upper School office and worked there until May of 2008.

In typical June fashion, she did not stay out of work for long. She went back to work again six weeks later at the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in Fort Lauderdale and that continued to be her job until the Pandemic hit in 2020. Her final retirement being at age 90!

She is preceded in death by her Husband John Arthur Parney, her brother William Calvin Palmer and her sister Kathryn Joyce Crochet.

She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Minyard (Mark), her granddaughter Melissa Carvajal (Luis) and her two great-grandsons Liam Carvajal and Owen Carvajal.

She loved being with people and socializing. She loved parties. She loved to Dance. She loved her friends and family. She loved her dogs. She loved LIFE. Anyone who knew her, knew she was a tough one and a force to be reckoned with. She will be missed by so many people.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 at 12:30pm at First Christian Church in Wilton Manors. In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to The Humane Society of Broward County.
