Richard “Dick” Jerome Spragg, a 62-year resident of Florida, passed away peacefully at home in Pompano Beach on Wednesday, November 23. Dick was born on May 25, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of Stephen Jerome Spragg and Hazel W. Deemer, where he graduated from West High School. Dick met the love of his life, Jhane Andra Glancy, in 1941 while working at Cleveland Trust Bank. He was with the U.S. Coast Guard during WW2 and stationed in Long Island, NY when they married in 1943. Dick worked in retail credit management while attending Western Reserve University after they returned to Cleveland following the war. They moved to Wilton Manors in 1954. Dick resumed his banking career with Dania Bank followed by 27 years as an officer and executive with Landmark Bank, now Bank of America, before retiring in 1984. He was the only Broward County banker to serve as Chapter President of both the Bank Administration Institute and American Institute of Banking. Vacations and summers were spent in the mountains of Blairsville, Georgia for 40 years. Dick was a gifted athlete and often found on the golf course. He was a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins and North Carolina Tar Heels, a staunch conservative Republican, a Mason for 74 years and current events junkie. Dick was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord, family, friends and his country. He and Jhane moved to Sebastian in 1988. Dick was predeceased by Jhane in 1993 and moved to Pompano Beach in 2010 to be closer to Susan V. Spragg of Fort Lauderdale, his only child. Dick is also survived by numerous Deemer cousins. Donations in his memory may be made to Christ Church United Methodist of Fort Lauderdale.
