Dennis Anthony Pampeno, 59, of Fort Lauderdale passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 from lymphoma. Dennis worked 17 years with the Sun-Sentinel as a Production Maintenance Electrician. He was previously employed as an electrician with American Stationers, North Ridge Electric and Allbrite Electric Service. Dennis originally from Penn Hills, PA., moved to Fort Lauderdale in the mid-1980’s and quickly took up the sport of scuba diving. His love of the ocean continued with participation in Ocean Watch reef sweep activities and served on the Board of Ocean Watch. In later years, Dennis’ interests turned to Stray Aid and Rescue, an all-volunteer rescue organization, dedicated to help spay/neuter dogs and cats here in South Florida. He trapped feral cats at the Sun-Sentinel offices and worked to find them new homes, including his own. Through the years, Dennis’ interests and hobbies continued to grow. Being Italian, his love of fine wine was of special importance. He traveled with friends to the Napa, California wine region for a series of tastings and regularly participated in wine tastings events in the Fort Lauderdale area. Dennis also developed the art of baking cakes and cookies. His creations were infamous with his Sun-Sentinel co-works and many of his friends. If you were someone who received one of his special sweet treats, consider yourself the luckiest person in the world. It was filled with all his love and devotion to the art of baking. Dennis is survived by his cats, “Baby Blue” and “Penelope”, co-workers at the Sun-Sentinel, all his friends in the Fort Lauderdale area and family from Florida to Pennsylvania. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean off Fort Lauderdale, as he requested. His shining star forever burns brightly in heaven. A celebration of Dennis’ life is being planned, pending final details. On line condolences can be shared at edkalis.com, arrangements entrusted to Edwards Cremation & Funeral Services, Wilton Manors.
